I have a question...
I was just talking to some of my friends the other day about this kid in our grade who went a crazy amount of miles without an oil change, like 13k or somthing like that. My friend harry pointed out that if you don't change the oil for a long time and then you change it, it could blow the motor. I don't really understand the logic of this, but seeing that his dad owns and operates a garage, I figured I'd ask you guys to find out if this is true or not. Thanks.

No way. Putting new oil with fresh friction modifiers and other additives in the motor can't be bad for it. But if you go a few oil changes stretching it out to 13k miles then some damage may already be done to it.

I think he may be confusing engines with transmissions. I have seen lots of auto trans that didnt get a filter and fluid change until 140-150, get the flush and then die.

Sometimes changing the oil on a particularly grimey engine will "clean out" places that are using the dirt/oil cake as a sealant. I've seen this happen in places like valve cover and oil pan gaskets, but as far as causing the engine to blow, I really doubt it.
