New Here Q's before I buy!

Hi, I was referred to this site my jethawk with his 91 Formula....anyways I am on the market for a Z28.
My dad owns a 84Z28 which is pritty mint also.

Anyways I seen an add for a 88 Z28 so I called up and checked it out....

Candy Red Z28 with silver GFX
305TBI MSD Ign, Dynomax Exhaust, K&N filter 225 000KM
700R4 Rebuilt at 150 000KM
Black Interior

So anyways I took a look at it today but the owner wasnt home so I didnt get to drive it, or see the complete inside.

The body has some rust....A Piller rusted, Wheel wells in spots some of it is thru, Needs a new driver fender bc it looks like someone tried to knock out a dent, Pain faded on hatch, tint bubbled on hatch and falling, crack in back bumper. The driver side floor pan looked kinda bad also.
But brand new tires lol.

He said it has custom interior witch only looked like the door panels and the back seat and trunk is all stereo Equipment and im not sure if it comes with it.

He said it runs Great and he replaced things like alt etc.

None of this bothers me too much bc I want a Project Car not a buy and drive right away.

He listed 1700 OBO Canadian I dont think I would offer him more than 1000 but I dont wanna make the guy feel like im knocking the car its just bc it needs body work.

I would Like to have a TPI perferbly 5 speed but this is what I came up with for cheap...should I just pass on or take the chance?

I am gonna wait a bit bc I dont think it will go anywhere too too quick.

I was also wondering about the 88 Z28 everywhere lists 88 Z28 was replaced with Iroc? Is this only for american cars bc this is a Canadian car and it doesnt say Iroc anywhere?

I here that there is a Edelbrock TBI to TPI kit??? where could I find it?

Anyways sorry for the long post lol

Jay

Length is good for detailed responses in cases like this. I would probably pass on this one unless he lets it go cheaper than $1000. Too much rust, mileage isnt the lowest, etc. I think you can get a decent camaro/firebird thats more what youre looking for $1500-2000 that wont have you repairing rusted out body panels for the rest of your ownership of the car.

I think you could find better but its worth a try offering a bit less than what hes asking because it does sound like its in rough shape. Depending if the stereo comes with it or not (and what it involves) may make it worth 1700.

As for the edelbrock TBI-TPI kit, heres a link

I picked my car up for $1500, it had 99% perfect body and interior, had a 350 dropped in with TH350C trans. But it also only had the stock stereo, and no EFI.

So personally i would keep looking if he wont drop on the price.

Kinda pricy there,
Id personally go with a better body, for a project,
Got my 88,with a bad trans/and engine for $600,after shopping for only a month. 99%rust free.
That seems to be alot of rust, and is a bad start, right off the get go, for a project.

remember,bodywork isn't cheap.
and paint work and supplies are EXPENSIVE!
i.m.o. you would be ahead of the game finding a solid car for a decent price and spending some bucks keeping it waxed.there are still lots of solid third gen's out there

I shoulda mentioned I know how to do body work I rebuilt my 90 Tbird by cutting the rockers off and welding new ones so body work doesnt bother me.....

Well I found a car....Im gonna go test drive it monday and pick it up this week . I know the old owner he bought it and started preping it for paint to it is red but flat now lol.

1991 Camaro RS
-305 TBI 225K km
-700R4
-grey clothe good shape
-Hardtop (what i wanted)
-etc

the place wants 1200 Etested (Canadian) Im gonna go in and offer 900 then work from there.

Plans to the car....paint red again (not sure on what red and if candy etc), 1.5 drop, bigger sway bars, TPI Swap, Intake, Cam, Tuned, Headers with true 3 inch, 3.73s first mod, maybe either a shift kit or maybe maybe a T5 or T56 swap, aluminum Drive shaft, Battery relocated...........

Is there a motor that will swap in that I can use some of the stock parts...I was kinda thinking of a 350 just because I dont know how much a 305 can take and I do plan on Juicing it with a 100-125 shot.

The list goes on! My buddy is gonna let me store it in his barn and he has all the tools air compressor paint guns etc.
I dont plan on putting it on the road till next year or after. Or I dont plan on modding it until Winter. Maybe start the teardown like fenders, bumpers, etc.

I cant wait to go there and get it...if it isnt gone!
I will post some pics when i get it!
