original unmolested l69 question
I found a 1984 Z28 with l69 and auto, only code showing was gt4 so not sure on the rear, original unmolested shape, all there and straight on body, no rust. Hardtop with manual windows and doors, nice interior, original down to the rims and exhaust, runs and drives with 104k original miles from 2nd owner. Paint on hood and roof is toast and runs a little rich, been sitting mostly for 10 years, guy wants $2200 for it. Should I snag it up and fix the paint, are these l69's worth restoring or are they still a dime a dozen.

Damn, personally I thought it was kind of good deal, not a steal but at least a good deal. 3rd gens that aren't hacked up in any way are hard tofind anyway. This was one of the cars I always kind of wanted with the L69 in it. Why do you think a clean straight solid car like this is a "terrible deal", even if it needs paint?

L69 is the 305 with a carb right? i think hes asking too much really, i got my car for $500 with 61k miles, 89 firebird lb9, but it did need to be rewired entirely. i think you can find much better for the same amount of money.

yea it's carbed, but it's the H.O. which was quite a bit more desireable than the regular 305 that was in the z's. This car need nothing but paint and a tune up though. I don't know, maybe I'm way off, I thought it was an OK deal. Thanks

Something is worth what one person is willing to sell it for and another is willing to pay for it. However, if you found an identical unmolested L69 car in the exact condition except the paint was perfect for $2200, would this one now be worth $2200? Probably not, but, is such another car available?
Personally, I'd think $1500 would be more like it, a $700 paint job would then probably make it worth closer to $2000. But, I'm not in the market, and I'm probably not the best judge of value, anyway. However, the local guy trying to sell an '84 Berlinetta, originally V6 and now with TH350 & no engine for $700 is, in my opinion, crazy.
Now, if your L69 target was a 5-speed car. . .

Yeah if it is in perfect shape and needs almost no work, then it would be an okay price. If it needs paint then you should be able to get it for a little less. But in the end it is worth whatever someone will pay for it. I agree L69's are cool engines.

I got my 1990 350 Iroc Z with a slight fender dent, and some underbody rust for 1700$.
I would say 2200$ is a little steep...then again mine was a steal, but I would think 1500$ is in the right area

Heres my 2 cents. I find 3rd gens all the time(because I'm looking). I grabbed up recently a nice 84 Z28 HO(L69) auto, fully optioned out, I mean the RPO sticker reads like a novel.....power everything, overhead console, clock in dash, you name it. Car has new paint job(looks good) and new carb, plus New tires. Also came with the original dual snorkel air intake system(complete)...She runs good and I only paid $900 bucks for it. I also paid $900 for my original owner low miles(female adult driven) 91 Z28, its a 5.0 tpi, auto/posi Black exterior gray interior, shes a honey too! My opinion is to keep looking, or low ball the owner on the price. As a matter of fact, my brother just got a 91 Z28 5.7 tpi (G92 car)for $1200 when the owner was asking $2500 ! My point, it doesn't hurt to ask. I actually offered the guy $750 the week before and when he refused me I sent my brother over to his house, his $1200 offer started to look real good and he took it !!!!
