Is my rocker adjustment gonna be off?
I adjusted my rockers by putting #1 at tdc which I thought tdc was in the middle of that tube on the timing tab but I found out the first notch next to the tube is tdc. anyway I adjusted the rockers like the book said but with a 1/2 turn instead of a whole turn. Is my rockers going to be not adjusted right? Or am I going to have to do it over?

If anything your a little loose on your settings....if it caused you any issues they would be performance related and not cause a no start issue.....what did you do to the motor? Cam change etc............

I did head gaskets on it. I don't know if my timing light is screwy or what but sometimes I get the light to light and sometimes I don't. The timing light is almost new and I tried it on a running vehicle and it worked fine so I don't think its that. I replaced the rotor, cap, coil, and wires. I've always had a tough time starting it. I don't think the carb is adjusted right or something. I would run it for a while then it would be really hard to start or wouldn't start. I'd take out the plugs and they were carbon fouled. I'd clean them up and it would run ok for a while then same thing. Should I get the carb rebuilt? Also, what about that ignition? I don't understand it.

K I S S method.....keep it simple stu---....... you gotta have air fuel and spark...if it ran before it should run now. Check for fuel. Remember the carb is empty now....don't know what your set up is. You need to refill the bowl(s) of the carb with fuel and re prime the fuel line. You may have the dizz out 180 or just plain in wrong. Or...you have missed hooking up something. Unplug #1` wire and stick your finger in it while some one turns.....NO no no just kidding!! Start from the top. Pull #1 plug and roll motor over until it blows your finger off and check balancer and timing tap. Should be at 0*. Now verify your on compression stroke and re clock the dizz to point at #1 cyl. Now verify you have spark and start over

There is only 2 ways you can put in a distibutor right? Because of the oil pump shaft I can only put it in 180 off or right on right? Well I tried the other way and it shot fire out the exhaust manifold. (I don't have the exhaust on yet.) So I put it back it tries to start it will fire but it won't start all the way. I'm really thinking the carb is screwed up.

There are a lot of ways you can put the distributor in. It doesn't matter how it's in, as long as the rotor points to the cap terminal that's connected to the #1 plug wire when the engine is at TDC #1 firing.

What were the valves doing at the time? With the timing marks lined up you could be at #1 TDC firing, or you could be at #6 TDC firing.
