Motor build!

ok i just finished my 305 that i have in my car now and i have a 350 4bolt main in my shed just waiting to be built what/ how should i go about it? i know i just built one why another but the other was just to get her going and i didnt get the 350 till later. it is 1pice rear block w/ stock rods/pistons/crank no heads or cam! so basicly im starting with just a block! i was originaly thinking of 383 but even though i know its kinda pointless i would like something that i could rev a lil higher and makes a lil more power mid and rear but i still want good amount down low. im debating on if i should get a new crank or get the one that came in it redone. i am adding better gears and hopefully a t-56. im im also shooting for power range between 400-500hp. i want it to be a good stong motor and reliable it will def be taken to the track and street driven very much but if it had to be id be nice if i could drive it on a regular basis without probs driveabliity wise. i have been looking into jegs at a cam/head/intake package the part number is 510-300-503-1 . would this be a good path to follow? any advice or recomendations would be apreciated!

Get a stroker kit and build a 383. Makes good torque and no need to spin it over 6k. You'll be able to make an easy 400hp and it will start easy and idle good, not overheat and have good street manners.

im thinkin thats what ill prob do since im planin on buying everything in kits like the head/cam package i looked at and the rotating assembly since i dont wanna take so much time mixing and matching. would that system i looked at be still worth looking into? im gonna see about getting the heads ported and pollished if they need it and everything gasket matched. as long as i can get something that runs strong and fairly reliable like i said and mabey handle some spraw ill be happy. id like some lope too since im tired of none stupid 327cam

That Holley system makes weak power. Here's a setup I did for a customer that dyno'd 515 @ the flywheel, just to give you an idea:

383, eagle crank, forged 5.7" rods and forrged pistons
11:1
CNC AFR 195 heads
Comp's 236/242 grind
Air Gap intake
Modified Holley 650 (flowed around 800cfm)

My setup is almost identical except my heads aren't the CNC version and my cam is tiny, real tiny. Mine makes 430hp.

hum... ill look into that it seems like a good setup, how well did it behave drivability wise? what was cost for build? where should i look at for all the parts for best price? any other suggestions?? im sure this setup will be more than enough for me i just wanna look into ALL of my options but somithig like that will be a big probability.

He drove it to work and school whenever it was nice out. Something like 60 miles round trip in traffic. So drivability wise it was great. Runs 11.60's in the August heat. Cost for his build was somewhere between 6 and 7,000$ which included machining, balancing, blueprinting and dyno tuning. I can't tell you how much mine was because I got all my parts at cost and did all the machining and assembly at work afterhours.

As for the parts just look around. Summit and Jegs are probably your best bet. When you decide what you want, gimme a shout. I'm a dealer for Eagle, Scat, Callies, Wiseco, Brodix, Dart, Comp, ISKY, Edelbrock, just about anything.

i had thought about finding a stock casting heads and get them worked but i dunno. i am planing on spending some money and time into this motor but still keep it fairly resonable cause ill be buying a new car this fall so funds will again be limited but its not like i need the motor right away but i dont want it siting around half built either. i know i can get some hook ups on parts but not on all though and i can get the machine work done for a resonable price. i got my 305 and 416 heads cleaned, resurfaced, cam berrings, frezze plugs,bore/hone,new valves, valve springs and valve job done for about $470. i thought it was a pretty good deal and was happy with the results. ill prob be using him for this motor too. and some friends and i (mainly me) will put it together on our spare time. i built it for about $1200 including orig. cost of buying running motor. so im hoping with the right resources/hookups to keep this motor build $4000 and under but that will be realy stretching it!
