oil pressure and oil filter

So, here is the deal. Usually i get my oil changed at jiffy lube. But I figured this time i will do it my self as it is pretty straight forward, however i would have to deal with the oil mess.

So I buy a good filter for like $10 and oil for about $14 then get under the car and do the swap.

The filter jiffylube uses must be pretty crap.??

After the change the oil pressure is up and moves easy when i press the pedal. Definetly a difference over before the change.

I dont think it is all in my imagination heheh

So I think filter choice is important!

Oil viscosity is also important. You're spending $24 for oil and a filter, so why not spend $21 for oil and $4 for a filter. You can get a 5-quart jug of Mobil 1 for about $21, and an AC filter for $3.50 or so. That would be a real improvement.

Vader,

I'm thinking of going to Mobil 1 synth from Catrol GTX. I don't drive the car much (1K a year). Any tips for doing the conversion from dino oil to synth? The motor has 77K on it and other than valve seal smoke, it runs awesome.

Thanks,

Don

Take out the dino, put in the synth, change the filter. That's it.

I ran some seafoam in my crankcase for about 150 miles before I changed the oil over to synth. The previous change was probably about 1k ago and man was that stuff filthy after the seafoam.

I've used seafoam in the intakes, but I'm not brave enough to pour it in the crankcase.

I also have a Saturn with 180K that uses a quart every 1K, so I guess that would not be a good candidate for synth motor oil?
