90 Camaro ignition problem
I have a 1990 Camaro RS 3.1L ..i just bought it a month ago..i was driving it home one day and it broke down, i had it towed home. but anyway, it figured it might be the timing chain..but the firing order seems to be correct. I found out that it's not getting any spark. So i replaced the distrubuter cap and rotor. But it's still not getting any spark. I replaced all the plugs and wires, and still no spark. I took the center wire off the distributor cap and left it connected to the coil and put a spark plug on the end and cranked the engine over, and it gets perfect spark. Then i put the center wire back on the cap, and take a different wire and put the same spark plug on that wire and crank the engine over and it doesnt get any spark. What could be the problem? Please let me know.

I will second the module!
And buy one thats good instead of the cheap replacement one.
Either ACdelco one or Accell module will give you a piece of mind. (ask me how I know!
).
Good luck

the module triggers the coil. since you got spark by connecting directly to the coil, that would've included the module. I presume it's similar to the V8. You replaced the cap & rotor. Does the V6 cap have one of those little buttons that goes in the center of the cap to make contact with the rotor? Your spark plug wires are good?
It's interesting that you didn't get spark at the end of the spark-plug wire, presumably with a test spark plug (of course, not hand-held). If your wires are fine, it could be that your coil is going. My experience is that they can fail gradually, in a degrading way which implies spark plugs going to hell. If your vehicle was starting to miss before it stopped completely, that might be the coil, assuming the spark plugs and spark-plug wires check out okay. Also, you might want to make sure the coil is well grounded.
just my 2 cents.

Thank you for the reply...but, i bought new plugs and wires and still no spark. And i did a continuity test on the wires leading to the coil, and they are getting perfect power.
