Starter Problems

I am sick of this starter problem it has been going on for about a month now. I installed a new starter that just wont crank the car. the battery is good, the wires are correct, but when I try to crank, the starter grabs the flywheel, and all I hear is grinding, the starter grabs the flywheel, and slightly spins it , but it slips off, i have tried shimming, and all the bolts are correct.

Is there a possibility you are useing the wrong 168( not sure if this is the other amount of teeth) tooth flywheels with a 153 tooth starter ? You may have to take the shims out. You possibly have it too far away from engageing right.

Move starter closer

I was reading an article on starter shiming, and it said if you shim both bolts then you (INCREASE the CLEARANCE). if you shim the inside bolt(IT DECREASES THE CLEARANCE) and if you shim the outside bolt(IT GIVES A LARGE INCREASE) with that said, should I shim the inside, to decrease the clearance.

I believe so. It sounds like your starter gear is not matching with the flywheel. Are you sure that you have the right amount of teeth on the flywheel? If so then the shimming must be off.
