New T/A

This week I am buying an 85 Trans Am...it has a 305 4bbl, but it is not the original engine..I'm not sure what year but its the same kind.

I was just wondering what are the easiest ways to lightly mod the car to run maybe about 350hp..what cams to get, what heads, a new carb? I dont know much about the third gen engines..more of an ls1/lt1 guy

I just want an easy way to get the car into the 13's..but i dont want to completely throw my gas mileage away

Axle/Gears: 10 bolt, true-trac, 3.73
hahaha..... good luck there.
sorry to rain on your parade, but cheap, 305, good mileage, 13 sec ET, those don't go together. Very few people have done that successfully. (mwnova is one of few).

I'd guess the car has a 350 in it, if it's not the original motor. Either way, plan on a new 350 and full rebuild and upgrade to get 350HP and 13 sec ets.

its a 305 in there...

if i was getting a new 350, it would be an lt1/t-56 or something like that

right now i'm thinking a powermax 2050 cam, new valve springs, new headers, exhaust with no cat back to 2 mufflers, and a dual snorkel kit

i might manage all that for about $2000 CDN with some work done myself.

this summer i plan on getting new exhaust and snorkel kit, i'll leave the engine work for next spring (i have to work full time away from home this summer)
----------
i went to look at an 84 z28 for sale with a 350 tpi converted to 4bbl 383 stroker

he said it had 365 hp, but got about 14mpg on the highway..was for sale for $2500, but the body was beat to ****, car had 130 000km on it engine had 60 000
----------
i can also get the heads ported for like $200 if i do all the installation/removal myself

sounds like you know what you're talking about. I think you've got a good combo. I think that's the cam sitting bull has IIRC. He has ~300HP. I think more then that in a 305 is both hard to do, not terribly reliable, and not fun to drive any more.

NS eh? I have a cousin with a hotrod mustang in NB...

thats cool, atlantic canada is rice capital of north america...10% of the cars are riced up, about 0.1% of the cars have a v8

and i dont want much more then 300hp, i want to compete with other v8's, any more then that and i may as well just get a ls1 camaro or something

It needs a "four inch bore kit".

AKA, "350".

My mileage varies from about 17 mpg around town to 27 mpg highway, 20-22 combined not uncommon.
