running pretty badly
hi all
i have an 86 305 tpi with a 700r4, and its been having some serious stuttering problems for a while now. when i push down on the gas, it stutters pretty badly, and the only way i can get it to go its to jam the gas down. when it is stuttering, i can smell it running rich. i checked the spark plugs and they are burning perfectly. also, i am getting codes 34, and 44(5?), the ones for maf sensor and lean exhaust. i recently replaced the maf, so it probably isnt that.
i was considering removing each sensor in order and seeing if the car ran any different, but if anyone here has ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Start by replacing the O2 sensor. The computer thinks the exhaust is lean, when in fact it is rich. That means the O2 sensor is kaput.
MAF - don't know for sure there, but that just may go away after you replace the O2 sensor. Maybe not, but the O2 is the right place to start regardless.

ok ill do that first.
also, there is a rattling-like noise coming from one of the accessories. i believe it is the smog pump but it could be the alternator. this wouldnt have anything to do with the stuttering tho would it?

If it's bad enough, it could be tripping the knock sensor, which will retard timing. That will lead to poor performance.
