weird noise coming from 2.8l

i have a 1984'pontiac firebird with the 2.8l, i noticed its making like a diesel noise when it warms up at about 2000 rpms, but it doesnt make it when it is cold. its only when its warm and when i rev it up. is this normal for this engine? if anyone knows let me know.

Monitor oil pressure from cold start to warmup, and idle and higher RPM. The factory gauge won't be much good for this unless you verify it with a mechanical gauge.
