code 42 problem, please help
hey guys i was hoping maybe someone could help me out ..
i installed headers and a new oil pan on my 5.0 tpi engine 86 trans am
after i was done, i started the car and it fired right up w/ no problems and seamed to be running fine. i looked inside to make sure the oil psi was good and i noticed the mil light was on so i hooked up my snap on scanner and there is a code 42 est code.
i shut the car off and then it would not restart and idle it was shaking all over the place and cut out in about 5-10 seconds
so i pushed it back in the garage because it was pretty late.. 2 days later i tried it again and it started right up but it will intermittantly do the shaking and cutting out when you start it at other times and the mil light is still on
the module is a delco and only has about 2,000 miles on it but just for the heck of it i replaced it but it still does the same thing. i changed the spark plugs, made sure no wires were pinched. ohmned out the wires that go to the distributor from the ecm everything checks out fine.. the mitchell on demand flow charts are all saying that the module is bad but i tryed that and had no luck.
a buddy of mine said something about i may have screwed up something w/ the valves by putting the headers on but i'm not sure what he was talking about
if anyone has some ideas or had the same problem please let me know. this car is driving me crazy and w/ my work schedule i dont have alot of time to work on it so this problem has been dragging on for a while so id like to get it straightened out..

have you checked the est connector it is a one pin connector near the ac blower motor it is a tan wire with a black stripe, it goes to the ecm to control spark advance if its unpluged you are running at base timing.
