305 V8 Rebuild...

Just got a 1987 Trans Am, it has a 305 that is stock with a carb. I was wanting to rebuild the motor and wanted to know if anybody knew if it was a 4 or 2 bolt, any more information of any would be a help. Thanks

That statement is in error, I have one (Factory 1983 G20 305).

Canadian cast blocks were made in 4-bolt main orientation for Trucks/Marine engines.

That being said, you are unlikely to find one in anything other than a boat or 3/4+ ton truck or van.

And that's not quite a 1987 Firebird is it? Although I'm guessing someone could have swapped in a canadian cast block from a boat or heavy truck into that firebird...stranger things have happened

if you want to rebuild something go find a 350 and rebuild that, it'll be cheaper and make more power

You said there were no 4-bolt 305s, period. I was just pointing out that they were made. I even agreed that it was most definately a 2-bolt main block. Really the whole 2/4 bolt main thing is irrelavent for a street engine up to 400 HP and 6,000 RPM.
