Newb head removal question
I am trying to pull the heads off and i removed 8 bolts, all accessories, intake manifold...now what? The thing is stuck on there like the botls were never removed. Help ASAP i need to get on this tommorow so i will have parts to finish putting it back together in the mail sometime within the next 2 days.

There are a whole lot more than 8 bolts holding the heads down, so yes... it's exactly like the bolts were never removed. Take out the other 9 and you'll be able to pry it off.

Yellow indicates removed bolts.
removing the rocker arms make it easier...Putfile - You will lose Larson Power
what casting number are those? they look like "187"'s the bolts are under the headers

you are wanting to take the heads off right?
----------
you will have to remove the headers and remove the bottom bolts on the heads
----------
as far as being scared, looks like your doing just fine, valve lash setting is easy

You'd have to lash the valves anyway. It doesn't matter if you're a newb or not. There's only one way to get experience, and that's to do it.

a HAYNES manual would work great for you.

the first thing id do tomorrow is remove the headers, the other 8 bolts will reveal themselves. why not keep the manual in the garage where you work on the vehicle. ceramic? flower pots? I'm picturing a greenhouse. never heard of a ceramic library. sounds Australian.

the engine doesnt apear to have many miles on it, why are you taking off the heads anyway?

To see how shiny it is!
just kiddin
Even after you get the lower bolts off remember these things are not that light, you may have to yank on it a little bit to remove these things.

Not that light, and you have to get it off the dowel pins, too. Don't pry between the deck and the head surface if it's not coming loose, though.

Girlfriend is my second hand, she cleaned up my Edel. Performer RPM intake quite nicely. Ceramic library....the bathroom. There probably isnt over 10K miles but i am getting water in my oil and an oil leak. I think my head gasket is blown so i just decided to tear it all apart, learning experience. The timing chain cover is what is leaking the oil, one piece oil pan gasket. Any more thoughts are greatly appreciated. You guys have given me more help than anyone else that i could call to help me out. Thanks again. Be back up to the house in a few.
