396 engine help
Hi!!
I built a 396ci engine, topped with AFR 210comp.port heads, and Accel single plane EFI and a 224/230 605/622 comp cam.
Throttle body is an 58mm….
My problem is..i have no power…about 340chp and 360ctq..why?
I think, my cam is maybe too small…
The problem is, I live in Austria, and I cannot drive with an extreme idle..
My current cam have an overlap of 52°, if I change to a 236/236 XFI series cam, it will be 62°
Or should I go with a bigmouth intake and siamesed SLP runners?
Thanks for answers

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
What pistons did you use? What is the deck clearance? (looking for the numbers to ACCURATELY determine your compression)
What tuning has been done to it?
What are the total HP vs RPM and torque vs RPM curves like?
If you mean "crankshaft HP" by chp, then there's definitely something wrong. It's not the cam. You should be getting AT LEAST 75-100 HP and torque more than what you have.
Are you certain that the throttles are opening all the way?

i use forged JE pistons with 5cc Valve reliefs..clearance is 0.035..oh sorry, didnt mention....static compression is 10.46 to 1 , dynamic 8.2 to 1, heads have a 72cc chamber
total hp is 340 CRANK ant 5500, torque is 360 at 3850
throttle is open all the way, surely
i know, theres something wrong..and i think, its the part combination..the cam doesnt like the single plane very much and vice versa

i use TPIS LT headers, free flowing exhaust, with just Flowmaster mufflers..
The tune of the engine i would say is perfect...A/F ratio, timing, everything perfect..takes throttle smooth, no hickups, nothing
just lacking power...

Hi
yes, the engine is still in the car...anyways, i will step up to a Lunati cam 234/238 and also add a divider plate to the single plane
hope this helps..
im just really clueless, what could be faulty...
