My starter did something scary today

I hit a pot hole with my car today and the wire popped out of my aftermarket fuel pump. I tried to start the car back up and it wouldn't start. When I took my hand off the key the starter kept cranking the engine! With the starter still cranking I got out of the car and tried to unhook the battery. The pos. post was so hot it burned my hands. Can anyone tell me what happened and what can I do to fix this?
Thanks,
Matt
p.s. it finally stopped cranking when it killed the battery

Congratulations, your solenoid stuck. It's a common problem on Fords, but Fords have an external solenoid that's all of about $5 to replace. IIRC, your solenoid is attached to your starter and can't be purchased separately. Hope you have a warranty! Your only other hope is that somehow the solenoid terminals became bridged, like with a piece of loose wire or metal or something, and jumpered eachother, but that's a bit unlikely.
