New pump, vapour lock, dipstick award
I graciously accept dipstick of the year award. Installed a new Edelbrock 120gph electric pump......in the engine compartment!
I win the award!
Massive vapour lock and sore head from smacking myself silly. Have moved it to the rear where it belongs....thanks to the message boards.
Still have a 3 to 4 psi drop once hot...I have my Mallory return style regulator left over from my "in tank" setup. Would it help with this? The Edelbrock is internally regulated and adjustable. Should I use the Mallory, turn up the new pump all the way and regulate it down with the Mallory and return fuel back to the tank? Should reduce vapour lock, right?

Oh, yes. Definitely use the Mallory mounted up near the motor (on the front of the strut tower is a popular location). Electric pumps, self-regulated or not, can't hold constant pressure from the back of the car. The weight of the fuel in the lines during hard acceleration will drop off a few PSI every time, which, of course, you don't want.
Crank up the pressure on the pump to something higher than you will ever need- 10 PSI or so. Then do all your actual pressure regulator settings on the Mallory.

Cool, I will do it, of course I failed to mention how I "cleaned up" the engine bay by removing the return line.....
Thanks for not mentioning the appropriateness of the dipstick award...forehead is still kinda sore.
