Vapor lock problems

Ok I installed a new gas cap today. I have a brand new carter high flow pump. I still seem to have some vapor lock problems as when I take the gas cap off I hear sssshhhhhhhhhh like there is built up pressure. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I removed all emissions stuff, like the charcoal canister. I have a steel line that used to be the return line for the old pump, I capped that off and I have another steel line that was connected up to the charcoal canister. Can anyone think of anything else?

the tank vented through the charcoal canister that's what it's for. Did you replace the gas cap with a vented cap?

Probably not. I just went to the local shop and asked for a new gas cap. I need a vented cap?

I'm pretty sure you do if you capped the vent line from the tank. Otherwise It'll just build up pressure and choke out your fuel pump.

well then you have gas fumes coming out in your engine bay or under your car, two places where theres a possibility for sparks. I remember a few years back a guy had a picture showing how to vent a gas camp it was drilling a hole in a certain spot. But i don't remember where, sorry. Maybe if you do a search for charcoal canister removal or emissions removal. Wish I could be more help.

I've had this happen on every third-gen bird I've owned. I thought it was normal. I've also never removed any emissions stuff. Are you NOT supposed to hear that sucking sound when you take the gas cap off after driving it on a hot day???

there's two different pressures gunner the one like you have and in that thread the one like Firebat has. I'm thinking MKnight might be having the second one. My 87 had the second one my vent line was clogged. So MKnight drive it, if it stalls from to much pressure then you know your problem. If it doesn't well you don't have a problem

btw gunner are you a member of daytonfbody.org? If not check it out it's in your area.
