I had the "SES" light come on and off on me a few times on my way back from work (20 min drive). WHen i got home i decided to try reading the code by sticking the paper clip into the ALDL but its not working. I'm sticking it into the A and B connectors but the SES light doesnt flash, not even the initial code 12. I've read codes for my other cars in this method but this is my first time doing it on a Camaro so maybe i was doing something wrong. Any suggestions?

oh yeah maybe i shouldve mentioned that none of the lights (e-brake, fasten seat belt, check oil, etc) dont work. Being that the SES light is grouped with those other lights i figured that it didnt work either until i saw it flashing today.

I've only had this car for a week so I havent had a chance to fix all these problems.

Q: How can I display the error codes from a Service Engine Light?
A: If your car does not have the 12 pin DLC connector, you may not be able to manually "flash" your trouble codes. The language "may be possible" appears to suggest that this method should work with most, if not all, 12 pin DLC equipped cars.

DISPLAYING THE TROUBLE CODES
Run a wire/hairpin from Pin 6 to Pin 12 with the ignition off (although on later cars it should be from Pin 5 to Pin 6), then turning the ignition to the on position without starting the engine will flash the "Service Engine Soon" light in the following sequence: flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause Following this "12" code repeating three times will come any trouble codes stored, flashing each of them three times. If you do not see the "12" flash three times, your diagnostic circuit is defective. Some vehicles will display stored trouble codes, then "12" again, followed by energizing "most system controlled relays." The fuel pump relay will not energize. The idle air control valve will fully extend to enable checking minimum idle speed.
CLEARING THE TROUBLE CODES
Turn the keyswitch to the off position. To clear any trouble codes, disconnect the power feed for 30 seconds. If this is done at the battery, and your car stereo is equipped and programmed with a four digit pin code, you may have to re-enter that as well to use your stereo again. A better place to remove power is at the fuse.

Funny, I just replied to another one of your posts about your IAC. The correct connectors for our cars are "A" and "B", or according to this thread, 5 and 6. If you put the paperclip in the wrong connectors you could have a HUGE problem on your hands, possibly in the realm of needing a new ECU, so be careful. Before you begin, make sure your engine light is operational by turning your ignition to the "ON" position, not the "RUN" position. If the light does not come on with the ignition in the "ON" position, you need to fix this issue before checking your codes with this method. Obviously the the light needs to illuminate for this to work. You mentioned that you had seen the light flash a few times in the past, but it may only work intermittantly thanks to a loose connection or a chafed wire. Our cars are notorious for such issues. OK, turn the ignition off. Connect the jumper to the correct terminals(top right, and the one just to its left). Turn the ignition to the "ON" position, NOT "RUN". The engine light should flash code 12. If it doesn't, you have another issue that needs to be dealt with. One last thing, DO NOT START THE VEHICLE AT ANY TIME WHILE THE JUMPER IS CONNECTED. well i got bad news, the SES light doesnt come on when i got the ignition turn on (but not on run) and it doesnt flash code 12. So it looks like i got a bigger issue on my hands

It's a long shot, but before going any further, check your fuses. Could save you some effort.

Did you ever figure out why seatbelt light, Check engine light, and e brake light would not come on? My check engine light will not flash either.

Please be mindful of the thread date, some may suggest you start your own thread identifying your specific issue and members will happy to help. If the ALDL has been properly grounded then you should get a code 12 flash in addition to any other stored codes. I have the gmsm troubleshooting guide if you need it.
