TPIS zz4 head deal???

i got an engine with zz4 heads on it for FREE. these are the exact heads for the L98 that TPIS sells with the exchange deal for 1250. what i want suggestions for is. is this deal worth it for me? with these heads i will be running a voodoo lunati cam with 230 duration @ .050, and 500 lift about, also i want to run the accel super ram on top of it all. hows that sound?

TPiS

so you're basically looking at heads that flow
62, 140, 203, 239, 259, 256
for $1250.

That sounds like an alright deal. They're porting heads, not casting new ones for you though, so that's kinda pricey. It'd suck if they cracked a little while later, or something like that. Do they put in new guides, and machine them for high lift or anything for that price, or just port? I'd hope they re-con them completely for ya, that's a big dollar sign there.

accel superram? no comment, as I have no knowledge.

hmm, comes assembled after....
I'd port them myself if it was me....

I think those flow #'s are kinda optimistic, those heads are supposed to be pretty poor flowing aren't they?

Well, assuming everything is as it looks, I guess that's a pretty good deal. I think it's a little steep for my tastes though.

well im not doing it, i called them up, the guy said that it is 1250 + 700 core charge if you dont have the heads to trade in........ ridiculous, so if i just wanted those heads, i'd have to pay 1950????? either way you have to pay 1950 up front, but then you get the 700 back if you send them your heads that have to be that EXACT casting..... absolutely ridiculous...... how do they even sell that to anybody??? you can get a set of AFR's for less than that, ugh what a let down.........

just a dang minute!

they want to charge you for giving them your heads??????????????

that really sounds like a typo or a misunderstanding.
if you have heads they want, they should pay you for them!

no, they charge you upfront for the heads, but when you give them your heads, you get the $700 back. You don't get it upfront, but later when you send in your heads. Kinda standard.

But yea, $2000 for ported factory heads is a joke, but that was known at the beginning. $1250 is still what you'd be paying, just like you knew 2 days ago...

If I had $2000 to throw around, I wouldnt use them with these heads, I got a set and its not worth throwing that much money into them. Get some trickflows or afr's, dont waste your time.

i know that its 1250, i just wasnt clear about the 700 charge, i thought it was 1250 up front, and if you send them your heads you get 700 back, so in the end you'd be paying 1250-700 which would be 550, basically for a port job or whatever. anyway, i got it straight now, thanks for your help guys ill probably be going with a set of afr's

http://www.tpis.com/index.php?module...ted+Cyl.+Heads

this is still the deal, but now i'm considering it again lol, 1250 doesnt sound that bad for this deal.... only question is, would i be able to use my headers with these heads since they have D ports on them..... i'm a little confused.

right now i have the standard edelbrock street legal headers for a 350, if i need new headers then i'm definitely not ever doing this.

hrm i just called TPIS they said i could use any standard 350 header..... hrm

You can use standard headers with D-port heads. The upper half of the header tube matched up quite nicely but on the bottom where the flat part of the "D" is, a step remains. Unlike an intake port, a mismatch of that kind on the exhaust is not a problem- in fact, many say there are actually some advantages to it. You're good to go!

you would be stupid to do it i can get you 2 sets of those heads for 50 bucks right off the car... it is a rip off no amount of porting is worth 1250 on stock heads for this aplication... if you want send me the 1250 i will send you 2 sets and we call it even...

lol its not just porting.... they are sending me fully assembled gm heads, so they will look stock, they have angled plugs, they are 58cc, exactly what i have now, and the flow numebrs are outstanding..... i dont see whats so horrible about it. read everything else in the link i posted, all the stuff looks prety legit to me
