My timing is messin with me...
Ive got a carb'd 305, 700R4, and q-jet, orignal intake, orignal cam, and HEI with vac. advance
Ive checked the vacum adv. it works, and the mechanical adv. it works to...
I time it at 8deg. then connect the vacum, and rev it, and its like its being held back, so i tried retarding it a bit, and rev it, and it revs much better, but when i shut it off, it desils...
So where should i time this thing EXACT...

why are you using the engine with no load on it for your "rev test" to see what the motor wants. Set the motor up for 32-36 degrees at 3000 rpm and let the intial fall wherever it does. This is with the vacuum can disconnected. Drive the car around and your dieseling problems should be gone.
