Cruise Control problem

The cruise never worked on my car. So I found out it was a faulty switch so I put another one and cruise engages now when activated.

But... It is jerky. If I set it to say 50mph it will engage at 50mph then cruise will cut off. The car will slow down, then once it slows down by say 5-10mph cruise will kick in again accelerate to 50mph and cut off again.

The car basically feels like putting your foot on the pedal taking it off etc....

Anyone have any ideas what is causing this? Could it be a cracked throttle cable causing this? I know mine is cracked a bit.

I am not sure what else it could be.

Anyone??

Check all your vacuum lines (tees, hoses everything), cracks in hoses and tees are a menace on cruise

Hey what switch did you replace? My cruise never worked either and I was about to troubleshoot it...

TIA

The GM manual has a trouble shoot page for the Cruise circuit. I followed that and starting checking voltages etc...

It ended up being the actual cruise switch ( basically the indicator stalk) I trial fitted a 2nd hand one and cruise started working somewhat as described above.

I'll check the vac lines but I am pretty sure I don't have a problem with them. MIght be worth changing all of them and save time checking them. But I'll check the T-pieces as that is where it might be most likely.
