Is there a "common" cause of running rich?
Just got back from the sniffer, failed. High HC, grossly high on CO. NOx low, as anticipated. Running rich. Did some searchin, reading.... Is there a culprit more common than others as to make a car (ours) run rich? Passed NP 2 yrs ago, no SES light (aside from 32, which seems to be repaired with new temp sensor), NO hesitation, sometime purging idle, once n awhile rough acceleration, came and went on its own twice. 141xxx on the ticker, no mods beyond flowmasters, new O2 sensor July of 04 (no SES...) I see tests for the TPS which I can do, also plan on changing plugs and at least inspecting cap/rotor/wires. Would leaky valve guides/seals and burning a little oil be cause for high CO? (Stooopid question) how does one wash/clean a K & N filter? Is it as simple as flushing with water and air drying?
Here were my readings:
READING LIMIT
HC 1.605 gr/mi .800
CO 36.6212 gr/mi 15.00
Thanx guys!!!

Possibly time for a new O2. What brand was it if you remember?
Some brands are supposed to read a bit differently causing it to run rich enough to get you a fail on the sniffer.
Bosch i believe was the sensor of choice but i may be wrong.
