I'm gonna scrap this fraking car!
Well yesterday it started and ran fine. Even took it around the block. Ran good.
I decided to try to data log since I got the interface from moates.
The car literally ran for less than 30 seconds and did not start again. I saw the fuel was low so I figured would give the benifit of the doubt it ran too low on gas.
So today I put about 2-3 gallons in (literally about 20 minutes ago), and would take a trip to the gas station to fill up...
Cranks but no start.
44 PSi fuel, but acting like its not getting fuel/spark.
already checked and noid light pulses and plug wires arc.
All I got from moates was the ALDL cable and USB interface. I looked around the bin and flagged stuff like EGR and AIR to disable, but since I did not burn a chip (and was under the understanding OBD1 could not be flashed while in the car) I do not know what the hell happened...
No blown fuses... I do not even know where to start... I am truely hating this car and about ready to pull the new engine and trans, reassemble the truck trans and say to hell with this damn car...

well, it takes fuel, spark and compression to run!
Its not too hard to narrow it down. Pull a couple plugs their probably fouled or something simple like that...

yeah, check to make sure you got power at the coil, and if you screwed the ignition switch up, there won't be any power going to the coil. i'd start there. also, the ignition switch is not that expensive, nor is it very hard to change...you do, however, have to drop the steering column.
hey nelapse, he has a 1989, and they have a VATS key in them. it's much more for a cylinder and key and they can only be had from GM.
either way, i don't think it's the cylinder and key assembly.

I didnt even look at his car info... eh.. it happens.. yeah spark would be my first bet. Check the voltage to the starter, check those wires? sometimes they get so hot they gain alot of resistance and it isnt sufficient to start the car. I had a simular problem where it would seem as if it would crank fine. Put a thicker wire on it and it started like a champ Last edited by nelapse; Jun 18, 2006 at 05:35 PM.

well if it's the key lock, I am gonna disable the vats with a chip (along with a few other things).
thanks for the advice so far.

WELL... heres an update if you can call it that...
I am getting 12V to the coil, so ignition switch is not bad.
So I got a coil, still no start.
Pulled a plug, smelled of fuel but certainly not soaked.
running out of options guys... HELP

well tracked the no spark to a broken wire, but noticed the fuel pressure was not coming up like before...
So when verifing the fixing of no spark prob with long wire and grounded plug, I kept an eye and ear out for the fuel pump...
No noise kicking on, and no pressure at all on guage...
Already tried the 12V to pin G on ALDL to no avail, could hear the relay clicking however...
So access panel here I come...
