My new short block didn't cost an arm and a leg, but it almost cost me my finger....
Well my short block came in yesterday, and I was very happy to see it
So, I load it into the back of my truck (used the alignment rack at work to lift it into the bed) and took it home. So today, I called one of my friends over to help me unload it. This thing is heavy!!! Not that I had expected it to be light, but I guess that forged crank, rods, and pistons weigh a considerable amount more than cast/nodular iron/other non forged material. Anyway, the machine shop had bolted the short block to this metal engine cradle thing. So my friend and I load the engine out of the truck and onto the dolly. I start to pull the dolly off the driveway and into the sandy/grassy area on the side of the house so that I can put it in the shed. Anyway, the right wheel of the dolly sinks in the sand, and the dolly tips over. So does my engine
I tried to grab it with my right hand to keep it from falling but it's just way too heavy (400 lbs). Needless to say, the block fell over and sandwiched my hand against the rim of my camaro. My index finger got messed up really good. The block sliced through all 7 layers of my skin, through the fatty tissue, and you can see my bone. My friend asked me if I was OK and when I showed him my finger he almost threw up/passed out
But the good news is that there was no damage to the block!! Anyway, next thing on my list now is to get the AFR 195 heads and the COMP cams retro-fit hydraulic roller lifters. Then I'll be able to mock up the engine, find out what length pushrods I need, and finally check my valve to piston clearance.

I was gonna post a pic but figured it would have gotten deleted cause it wasn't *third gen related* even though the engine is going into my camaro. As of right now I have my finger wrapped up with some gauze/tape and loaded up with Neosporin
I kept thinking to myself afterwards that i should have just let it fall. After all it was on a little crate thingy, and there wasn't any damage anyway. But the way I see it, anyone here would have done the same thing. Kinda like instead of WWJD(What Would Jesus Do) I was like WWAFTGOD(What Would A Fellow Third Gen Owner Do) Then the answer became quite obvious

Ok guys here is a pic of my finger. Now remember, this finger has been bandaged up for three days now with some butterflies to hold the gaping hole in my skin closed. So here it is....

Good luck with the motor though, don't lie under the car while someone is lowering it into the bay!

Well, that's why I didn't post the finger pic the same day that it happened. I had fat tissue hanging out of the cut in my finger. I called my girlfriend at work and she came home for lunch to bandage me up. It is pretty bad when you have to push the fat back into the finger before you can try to bandage it up

can you still bend it? Are you sure you didnt cut a tendon?
I cut my finger like that, and I got nerve damage. The whole top of my left index finger is permanent pins and needles.
