possible to keep gas mileage?

If I put a 4th genereation rear end with 3.42s and a better torque converter with like a 2400-2600 stall, will my car still be streetable and get decent gas mileage?? and also, who makes a good torque converter that isn't very expensive?? Its all stock now and has 2.73s. Any responses would help!! thank you!

The tq converter depending on actual stall speed will reduce fuel economy slightly since it will slip to the rpm it stalls at. The 3.42 axle is a toss up. Your city milage should improve. Some people notice better hwy mileage since the RPM range they are in isnt bogging down the engine like the 2.73's do.
