EGR terminology help

i have 89 TPI and am trying to replace EGR valve, so far no one can order the right one, and the wire/sensor that goes into it. What is the name for that wire? The dealership can't figure it out off of thier diagrams. If there are any part numbers anyone knows that would be helpful.

hey just replaced my EGR on my 88 305. First you need to match the numbers from your old EGR with the new one that they can order. Make sure they dont give you a carb one cause thats what they did to me....yea totally different. Second you can only get the wire from chevy or a junk yard, local part stores wont carry the part. On thier diagram at the dealer i belive the wire is number 20. Its not close to the egr in the picture so it makes it hard for the part guy to figure it out. Ill try and get the part number for you i have it written down somewhere. " Is called the EGR temp switch. AcDelco #1408-7416 is whats on the box. Hope that helps ya out.

Its ok they got a couple cars. Only problem is I wish they would tell you what all they had before I went and drove down there. That wire is only 14 bucks at the dealer so id say go threw the dealer. On the EGR side though go through auto zone cause its about 40 bucks opposed to the dealers 85 bucks. Your probably going to have to wait either way about 3 days for the two parts. there's a car show every friday usually down here you'll have to bring yours down sometime.

I know what I would do in this situation. Put a blockoff plate on the egr hole and have someone burn you a new chip WITHOUT egr. Good riddance and never have that problem again unless you are in Ca or some other state where they are **** about the emissions crap.

That wire that you're referring to per the GM factory service manual, is the EGR Diagnostic Switch. Basically a temp switch. Just replaced mine. Check ebay for them seller is TPI PArts.net, or TPI PARTS. Very reasonable, I pd about 15 plus shipping!

ordered the part today from the dealership, it was $15 there, I brought in my computer and showed them the thread, the part reference number was 87 which he thought was an oxygen sensor. Hoperfully I get the right part from the parts store this time...I am pretty sure Colorado is strict on thier emissions.
