L69 vacuum problem

Can anybody help me identify the vacuum line in the attached picture? The end I am holding in my hand is broken and laying in the engine bay next to the egr solinoid. The other end of the line goes behind the engine and it disappears. I assume it goes under the dash. I have just purchased an 1984 Trans Am L69 5 spd. that is not running. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Looks like the MAP sensor line.

Should go from a port on the pas side rear of the carb, at the base right immediately above where it meets the intake manifold; the MAP sensor is on the driver's side of the firewall, between the brake booster and the fender, should have a 3-wire plug and of course a vacuum line going to it.

The vacuum line goes from the carb down into the wiring harness and runs along with it, until it pops out again by the brake booster.

You can get replacement plastic line and those fittings in the fuel filter and emissions stuff area at Auto Zone and Advance and those places. Or, you may be able to just get a little short piece of rubber hose, and slip it over the line and the nipple on the carb.

Need more help!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your reply. Their is another part that looks identical to the map sensor under the hood. It is located on right top of the engine bay right next to the heater box. It also takes an electical connector and it appears to take a vacuum line, or maybe it is a vent. Can you tell me what this part is, and does a vacuum line run to it? I ran a vaccum line from this part to the rear base of the carb thinking the whole time it was the map sensor. They look almost identical. I just purchased this car two weeks ago, and I am trying to restore it back to its original condition. Please excuse my ignorance.

I think I know what gizmo you're talking about, but I may have thrown mine out, if i'm thinking of the same thing you are...

oh yea, welcome to the boards, and congrats on your car purchase, it'll be a slick ride soon enough. These boards are extremly helpful.

The one next to the heater box is the barometric pressure sensor. Recall that "vacuum", which is an indicator of engine load, is the difference between the ambient absolute pressure and the manifold absolute pressure. Therefore, you have to measure both, in order to get the true load measurement.

The baro sensor does not get a vacuum line. It should be exposed to outside air.

Thanks!!!!!!!!

Yea, I had the baro sensor confused with the map sensor. I should have made more of an effort and traced that vacuum line. I would have then discovered the map sensor. A careless mistake on my part. Thanks, for the help.

I just purchased an 84 T/A three weeks ago with the L69 5 speed 3.73 and
4 wheel disk brakes.

I expect to fire the original non running engine up in the next month or two. I gotta go get an exhaust system and a fuel tank among other things, but I will make another post when this 305 fires up, and is able to make a its first "high speed burst" through the neighborhood. I'll let you know. Thanks
