350 vs 383

How much more daily driveable is a 350 then a 383. Mainly lookin at gas. Im jus going to be running stock comp. and chip for now, eather way I plan on goin with a holly cam. 950 type setup soon down the road. On stock comp it should get the same amount of gas eather way, the computer is only programed to give so much right(untill i do the camander and give it what i want). And then dependability, how much less dependable would a 383 be then a 350?

383 would need less RPMs to make the same power so it could be argued that the 383 would be more reliable. but either motor should be able to go 100k with no issues on a milder combo.

The cost is much higher on a 383, and if you dont put a high flow intake on it like a SuperRam or StealthRam, then you wont get any benefit from the bigger cubes. 383 and TPI will make so much torque it'll blow the tires off. And that T5 wont like the higher torque, either.

you may have heard this before but incase you havent then let me be the first.

either it be a 383 , a 350, or a monster 632 . when you have an engine that is built for all out power. drive them at low rpms ( 1,500) for very long and they wont last.

also if the 383 is a built engine then I doubt it will have a low enough comp to run on pump gass, dont get me wrong I have seen a few that was tuned right and ran on 98 pump . it all depends on your skills at tuning.

if you go with a 350. I can give you a good list of upgrades that will make you happy and help keep gas in the tank.

I had planned on going fully forged on bottem end(crank, rods etc), was only aiming for 9.5-10 comp .so i didnt figure it to be a problem.puttin alum. heads on, probly something from the eldel. e-tec series. as far as air flow i ported and polished the stock intake and runners, opened up quite a bit, but did plan on super ram later on as well. And as far as the tranny i am goin back with like a stage 2 clutch for now and do plan on a 6 speed swap in a year or 2 i figure if i ride her nice i should be able to pull that out of the stock t5.
----------
and as far as cost i found a place where i can get the full rotating assembly same price eather 383 or 350, thats jus going to come down to the grind work on the block im probly going to have to do to insure clearence.

Same here, I'm running 10.82 compression on my daily driven 383 with Al heads and a 230 dur cam. Never experienced detonation, heck I just started buying mid-grade and it still doesn't detonate/pre-ignite. 38deg timing at WOT! Build it then tune it.

I also disagree with this as well. Especially when you get aftermarket parts the 383 crank is comparable as well as the rods. The pistons are usually slightly more but not by much. The only other thing you may need is to clearance the block but if you do it yourself like I and so many people have done then thats free. I also didnt need a smallbase circle cam but my lift is maxed at .480.
