Off of compression stroke?

What do I have to do to get my car off of a compression stroke

The car is a 84 firebird with lg4 its just a long block right now in the car..

I'm trying to figure out what you mean. At any time there's always a cylinder that's on a compression stroke.

When you try to start it? Check your distributor position and firing order.

You're from Jersey, that would partially explain the English thing....

Do you mean to ask, how does one get the engine off the compression stroke in relation to the position of the distributor? If you think you stuck the the dizzy in wrong (on the compression stroke instead of the power/fire stroke or more TGOish dot to dot on the set) and you want to check it swap (read:rotate) the wires around to shift #1 to the #6 spot. If you really want to fit in with the TGO crowd thereafter, leave it like that so it's a 'cool mod' so it'll freak out the next guy that has to mess with it...

...or you could do it the right way and just pull the dizzy and restab it the right way (this would involve pulling out the dizzy, rotating the motor and reinstalling said dizzy).
