Fix Oil Leak - now ticking sound under car?

Hello again all,

Just got my oil leak fixed last night - loose oil pan and (where most of it was coming from) loose oil filter

Tightened those up, and the valve covers too, and now I have a ticking sound coming from under the car. Never had it before, only had it after having these things done did it occur. Seemed to drive fine home, although I didn't go over 1800rpm Don't really want to drive it anymore without knowing what the issue could be...

The ticking goes from inaudible to barely / somewhat audible at idle, and only gets fairly loud >1500-2000rpm. I can faintly hear ticking at idle inside the car. There is no noise from the top...

If you need it, I can probably record it for you.

Any ideas?

That's really no help. This issue is really stressing me as it is.

I had a Chevy geek come look and listen to it; it wasn't ticking, but he heard something else and thinks it is a spun rod bearing.

He's got a few motors and some okay prices for them + installation, so I may have to do that - but I don't have any money so this is going to be quite difficult. He's got a rebuilt 350 and a new 350 ready for installation, if only I had more money I'd have him drop one in right away...

If anyone else has any ideas either, feel free to chime in.

How low did the oil get when it was leaking? Ever lose oil pressure?

It's pretty unlikely that a noise like that will have any relation to what you did , unless during the period where it was leaking, it went low on oil and something was damaged...

A spun bearing will make a pretty good sound and it definitely isn't going to get any quieter. IIRC, a spun rod bearing won't affect oil pressure, but a cam or main bearing will. But I might be wrong, I'm a bit out of my game when it comes to internals, I slapped mine together and got lucky.

I did loose oil pressure. Oil ended up getting quite low. Not losing pressure now...

Plausible that this is it.

Yeah, if you lost oil pressure....I can definitely see bearing damage as a likely possibility.
