engine work killin me!!!!!!!!
if i didnt love my camaro so much i wouldnt even bother... i had to pull the whole top and front of the engine apart. its a 305 v8 but the prob is its got all that emissions **** in the way!!! ahhhh i hate emissions. seriously who the heck needs or wants an air pump...not to mention what good would it really do seriously!!! well i did get it all apart but it sucked...now that ive gotten a valve job and changed the timing chain, spark plugs and spark plug wires (all with the motor in he car i might add) i just need to get it all back together im so close to finished and off all things i loose a damn water pump bolt!!!!! uggh...oh well it will get finished soon enough.

Ah!!, Not so, my man. The computer will adjust fuel mixture by what it sees at the O2 sensor. No check engine lite. Many folks have removed the AIR system with out a problem.

So, you removed the pump temporarily and the O2 started to run rich??
Sounds like a seperate problem, honestly. I don't see how only removing the pump would make a change like that.
You might start by replacing the o2 if it has any milage on it. Other than that, some more exploratory work needs to be done to fix your problem.

well my step father has been a mechanic for some years but he worked on alot older models than what i have so it was a guess by him that the O2 would run rich...so i was just checking around to make sure....but if it does run rich i will look into it though so thank you for the tip.

theres no gain to be had by removing the AIR system
at all
zero, none
if its all intact and working fine then kjust save yourself the trouble and leave it be
for real
trust me
worry about more important things than the AIR system, it is there to burn unburnt fuel fumes in the exhaust, it has nothing to do with performance of the engine nor does it take any of it away, at all,
plus it helps to keep the world's air a little bit cleaner
i only remove AIR systems if the tubes are broken corroded apart or the pump is locked up or something else bad
otherwise theres no point in it
just trying ot help, as i have been here done this a million times over theyears,
good luck

in addition to what Fast68 said, what happens when you get emissions testing?
then you have to turn around & put everything back on.
emissions testing is not a question of " IF ", but one of " WHEN " you start having to do it.

Mentally challenged kids are ugly as hell at make schools more cluttered, but we don't get rid of them, do we?
[/badanalogy]
But seriously. Get over it. It's a little more work, and your kids might not have to live in the oceans for a few more years.
Edit: I dunno. I just looked up a reman, and if you took a sander to it, made it smooth and curvy, and painted it high gloss black, it could be a pretty sweet lookin part. Pop your hood after you beat someone's ***. "What's that shiny black part down there? Is that what beat me?!" "Nope. That makes me emmissions compliant. I WHUPPED YA WITH EMMISSIONS!"
I dunno. That'd be sweet.

Many posters here are retarded too, and do dumb things to their cars.
The o2 offset in $8d is .100mv.. Not enough to run so lean that you'd blow something up, but it still assumes air when the bit is set.

Well, removing all of the emissions equipment is the first thing every young import driver thinks they need to do. And it's just unessacery to remove. No matter what, one day you will have to pass emissions, and it WILL have to be there. The only reason classic cars don't need them now, is because they weren't original equipment. Some cars don't need seatbelts, because they didn't come with them.

I am not against emissions, do i have emissions? no, but i did a v6 to v8 swap and i was not going to spend money on buying something i didn't need.
my opinion is that the AIR system is not required, clutters the engine bay, and makes it a pita for things like plug wires, certain hoses etc. So I cut mine off my headers and welded the holes. i know plenty of 500 hp full emission cars, but like I said, it is in the way for some people.
