Engine won't start - died after one run today

Coming back home yesterday, noticed lights were flicking together with the bass beat from the subwoofer. Today I went out to start the car, it did start but it ran real real quiet, low, barely alive. I drove around the block, twice, turned it off, started it again, and now it ran fine. I heard a loud hissing sound too.

Went to some stores, came back, parked the car, left it out in the back for one hour, tried to start it, nope, won't start.

Wehn I turn the key over, I do get the beep, loud and clear.

I measured voltage from the battery, 12 Volts with the ignition off, and seemed like 10 Volts or so witrh ignition on.

I also checked all fuses, they seem good to go.

It seemed though earlier today like the fan wouldn't stop running, but of course ignition off, made it stop running.

Alternator, old drained battery, 12V but not enough cranking power ?

Ideas , help ?

OK, ran battery power from my buddy's car, over to my battery, at first absolutely nothing, after a while I got as far as half a crank or so, so hmmm loose wires from the starter .. or something else ?

Hooked up 12V from the battery, straight to the terminal on the starter, banged the hell out of it, and the car started, so obviously I need a new starter.

Would a bad starter, solenoid, do anything to the electrical system though, such as drain it ?

How do you test a starter/solenoid assembly ? Because it hmm COULD .. be the wiring

take it down to the auto parts stores and have them test it, they'll do it for free

if it was draining though, i would assume it is faulty wiring, not the starter itself

Well it turned out to be the starter, I just got one and replaced it, and it made a huge difference.
