Probably a power loss, depending on what 305 castings you currently have. 601, 416, 081, 187, and 434 are all good 305 castings to run.

I would choose stock 187/193/810 TBI swirl ports over 882/624/993 heads any day of the week.

The 882 varients offer poor flow, little swirl, huge open chamber, and are crack prone.

The flow on (some) 882's is actually pretty good. Probably better than (most) 305 heads in that regard. However, the 76cc combustion chambers will net you a total of about 8.5:1 compression on a typical 350, which would be a horrendous drop. Your 305 heads probably have 52-58cc chambers and compression is probably close to 10:1 or better now. Flow is the weak point in your setup, but any improvement you'd get there would be eclipsed by the compression loss.

not much to add to Fast's post there, he's spot on.

Your 305 heads on the 350 are probably your best bet, well, at least better than 882 heads.

I know for a fact that the 601s will push out about 210 CFM/ 140 CFM in stock form. I have heard of some good flowing 882s in stock form, but 95% of them will flow less than the 601s. The 601s also have the old double hump style chamber that makes for higher compression (53 CC) and a better burn. Cross your fingers that you have 601s.

do a google search too

you will hear all kinds of different info and opinions on these heads

i know that some or all of the 882's are light castings

like some or most of the 624's

and so on

heres a couple of internet search results for 882 heads, there is alot of info out there and a chart listing all the common smog and non-smog heads out there somewhere that escapes me right now:

SBC 882 heads

Re: heads again

good luck

No. You'll probabily loose power. You have the right head already. If you want to increase power, *fully port* your 305 heads and install new 1.94x 1.60 valves.

Here is a pic of just such a 305 head with combustion chamber deshrouding and larger 1.94x 1.60 Manley valves.
