battery relocated, now doesn't charge properly?

ok guys... I've relocated my battery to the spare tire well with a relocation kit. battery is nice and secure on a tray and I've routed the supplied 2ga back to the stock location. after several short stops and restarting the engine, it will barely start. with the stereo cranked the amp gauge on the dash moves noticably, but not drastically.. this did not happen before.

the alternator was replaced last year, and it was checked when installed. i've also got a nearly new ultima redtop battery I installed last summer.

so.. is this a common problem with relocating the battery.. too much wire length and not enough of a charge? I don't think my alternator has gone bad already, although next time I get the chance I'll throw a multi-meter on it and see what its output is.

any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

did you run a large alternator wire to the battery? or down to the starter if you're not running a cut-off switch? I have no problems with my alternator charging my system with the battery in the rear.

actually what I did is relocate the battery to the trunk, and run the supplied cable to the original battery cable... I just connected the new wire to the original location right where it used to connect in the stock location..

put a ring terminal on the end of the new wire, put it over the bolt on the stock sidepost terminal end, and put a nut on it. then obviously I secured it and wrapped it up so it would not arc or ground out.

ok problem solved. I was looking at the old wiring, large fat ground cable to the engine and a small one to the body. In the rear of the car I have a large cable grounded to the frame/body.. but there is nothing going to the engine. So what I did was connect the original ground cable to the body, now there is a big link between the body and the engine. problem solved.
