Big cam-5spd guys, gotta question for yazz

How many u guys gotta a decently cam'd motor, and have a manual trans? One reason Ive never wanted to drive my car to work is because of traffic, the cam and my T5. I gotta burn the damn clutch just gettin in and out of parking spots just so the car doesnt start to jerk and shake. Ive been thinkin about swappin in a 700, but now Im thinkin that its just a race car, and shouldnt see the streets Anyone else have this dillema, or do I need to STFU and deal with it??

just to get the car rolling shouldn't take too many rpms. I can pull out my buddies cammin car, which is much larger than your XE274 cam in sig with just around 1200 rpm or so and it'll take off slowly. Now if you want to launch it at the track then it's 4700 rpm or so, but for normal street driving and slow acceleration, it doesn't take tons of clutch slippage.

STFU and deal with it!!

I've got a XR282HR-10 hydraulic roller and an aluminum flywheel (13lbs) and have no problems in bumper to bumper traffic.

cruising around parking lots is kinda a pain, you gotta go fast enough in first to not get it jerking you around, or just coast, then keep putting it back into gear.. Gets old pretty fast. People think you're learning to drive a stick when you're jerking it around... So yea, you just fry you clutch more.

one thing I forget to mention was driving in traffic. I drove it in once, only about 10 miles or so from home. But in slow moving traffic (10-15mph), the car couldnt idle below 2000rpms without bucking like mad. I mean I could deal with this once a week or so, but everyday?! I dont see how you guys do it!

I have the 274 in a 350 with the T5 and it only has issues right at idle with the clutch out. Of course I have 4.10 gears which helps with putting around.

Are you working on some other car, or what?

I had that cam in a 400 for a pretty good while, in front of a 5-speed. Ran like a scalded dog. I had NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER with the clutch. Only place I ever drove it was the street; rush-hour traffic, long highway trips, commute to work, drill a few Mustangs now and then, Sunday driving, you name it.

Sounds to me like you may have tuning issues; specifically, too lean when on the power system, and too rich on the mains, and throttles open too far at idle. Try backing off your jet size until it just barely starts to surge when cruising at high vacuum (> 20"), then go back up 2 sizes from there; and use a 10.5 power valve in the primaries; and adjust the secondary idle stop screw to where when the curb idle speed is set right, no more than about .020" of the transition slot in the primaries is uncovered below the throttles.

Your clutch may also be the problem. If the flywheel didn't get turned when this one was installed, it's probably heat-checked, which will make them chatter like all hell.

That could very well be the problem as well. I bought that 750 from a speed shop, completely rebuilt, jetted, everything. It does seem to run rich as hell crusin along highway speeds (you can smell the exhaust). So that could be the case, but the more Ive been thinkin about it Id rather build a 700r4 just for the racing aspect (consistency). Plus I can get a rebuildable core, Trans Star kit, and a shift kit for nothing, I mean litterally nothing. Im still scuuuuuurd too about the T5 grenading on hard launches.

And by big cam, I just meant a decent step above stock Not necessarily radiacally huge
