I would like to start gathering parts to build my 383. I was wondering if the head casting number 14011034 was a good head to use, from what i have read it is a 64cc head so that would create high compression, but if i would like to use nitrous i would have to use a dished piston correct? or are these heads just a bad idea to use with nos? The ad on craigslist reads such as: "Up for sale is a nice pair of Chevrolet Bow Tie heads casting number 14011034. Large valves, Manley 7/16 studs, guideplates. Complete with Valves, springs, locks & retainers. Roller rockers in picture are not included. $375 or best offer. "
so whats everyones opinion on these heads to use with the 383?

 

Bow tie heads are good heads. Most you will see for sale are from circle track motors. They have usually been angle milled to the max. meaning the combustion chamber volume is much much smaller than stock 64cc. Sounds like the heads many have some issues based on the cheap advertized price.
A good set of used bowties go for much more.

Be carefull what you buy from ebay. Just cause you see something advertized for cheap does not mean its a good deal all said and done. Usually ya get what ya pay for.

A 383 that you want to run on pump gas will need a dished piston with 64cc heads. Not a problem, just buy dished pistons.
