Half juiced, but no start
Working on my 87Z.
Recently I replaced the ignition switch and brake switch on the steering column along with the cable assembly that goes to the floor shifter. Hook up the battery, have interior and exterior lights, put the key in and it buzzes like it's supposed to I guess. Turn the key to start and everything goes dim, my fans dont run and the engine will not even attempt to start, dead.
Checked the rod that moves along the steering column, seems to be enguaging, moving, check the purple wire from the shifter, have a good circuit, checked the wiring connection at the ignition switch against others that I have on hand, ok. And checked the fuseable link, ok.
When I turn the key to the acc setting, the airbag system runs it's test, and the fuel pump comes on so I assume that the ecm is okay. It was running before I changed the ignition switch so, maybe I'm answering my own question. I purchaced the part from GM but, maybe I've missed something or have installed it incorrectly? Any idea's or suggestions?
Thanks

How did you get an '87 with an air bag? I thought they weren't available until '89 or '90.

The car is an 87 year model. However, it now has a 350tpi w/ speed density and the steering column from a 91 GTA. The entire interior was stripped and the dash & harness, guages and air bag plus sensors are from a 90Z28.
Kind of a Heinz 57 if you will...
