this is just frustrating

I am hoping that someone can help me on this.

I bought my car pretty recently and it wasn't having any problems. motor pulled like an ox and the trany shifted just fine. However about a month later, it is sluggish and now it just feels like i am getting about half of the power out of it. I cleaned the MAF and K&N filters. It is a 305 TPI. I just don't even know where to begin looking to trouble shoot. I was hoping you guys would know where a good point of entry, if it were, would be. The other thing is that it is fairly sluggish on the throttle. It is like a hesitation then a pull from the motor. The engine just doesn't sound as powerfull at idle or otherwise, and it performs like a smaller engine. I hope that helps as far as description because that is about all I've got.

Anything would be awesome.

Start with Basics

Some things we need to know:
State of tune - anything done to it recently? Everything in good shape (plugs, wires, cap & rotor)? Any codes stored?
Check fuel pressure
Check air filter
Check for plugged exhaust
Fuel filter changed recently?
Check Throttle Position Switch (TPS)
Let us know,
Corky

tune as in tune up? I don't know... I need to do that soon I'd imagine. Fluids and related filters all changed.
Cleaned air filter and MAF
I don't know about the TPS what should I check for that?
And I don't think there is a clogged exhaust.

Yes, I meant tune-up. Make sure everything is in tip top condition.
For TPS see Tech Articles from the home page. WHat you are looking for on the TPS is on a digital VOM, smooth voltage change as you open the throttle. Jumpy voltage readings will equate to stumble.

No codes stored?

fuel filter was first and foremost on my list.
Plugged exhaust would be next.

Check tranny fluid level too
also check your plugs, perhaps replace. Maybe test spark quality.
