Good Cheap low end torque setup

Hey guys, I'm looking to build a good cheap low end torque setup. I have a 350 now, so I was just gonna bore 40 over and swap a 400 crank in for a 383 stroker then get 4.11 gears on the rear. Anyone have any other ideas for what I should do?

Maybe try to buy a 383 shortblock from one of these engine building companies. Often they can be had for little more than what the machine work alone would cost you on your block.

Just my opinion, though.

I wouldn't upgrade 3.42's to 4.11's. You have enough gear to have loads of fun with a 383, no sense in spending another couple hundred bucks on gears.

The induction setup will need to be reworked in order to work right with a 383. Other then that, sounds like a blast.

I'll second the nixing of the 4.11s. Does the motor need a rebuild or do you just want a bit more power?

The motor needs a rebuild yes. I was debating between buying another cheap 350 in the area, or just building my own setup. If you have any ideas for how to make good low end torque on a 350 I'd appreciate it because that would likely save me a lot in the long run.

Get a Xfire manifold setup. Port match it to the heads and use 1.6 ratio rockers. Lots of low end torque. If you want to go a bit more radical, get heads and cam.

Isn't TPI supposed to be a much better system than X-Fire?

"Good Cheap low end torque setup"?

350 TPI - You already got it.

Needs a rebuild? 355 TPI

Going 383 isn't that more expensive, but man, you're already there.

"350 TPI, best truck motor GM never built".

The crossfire will lay down more LOW-END torque than a TPI ever thought about. A standard TBI will even out-torque a TPI on the low-end.

If it were me I'd go the Stroker! 383! But if you wanted to keep costs down then I know first hand you can make a pretty tuff 350's if it's built right for low down grunt!

Either the 383 crank or even 350 will give you heaps of tyre shredding pulling power grunt.

Keep the TPI or go HSR

Go for a Comp cams cam for sure. I like their XE268. The only other one I'd use is an Isky 270 / 280 MEGA.

I'd keep the Diff gears in the 3's and I'd look at a streetable converter, like a 2200 or something like that. You wont need a big one with all the snappy grunt.
