Whistling Noise??
Hey i have a 89 trans am with a 305 tpi, automatic. car was fine and i go and start her up and i'm hearing a pretty loud whistling noise.. it sounds like a tea kettle.. seems to go higher in tone and volume when the rpms start getting to 1,200-1,300rpm and then it gets drowned out by my exhaust.. i checked under the hood, idnt belts or alternator.. the noise hurt my ears when i put my ear toward the drivers side of the bay.. what could this be? a vacuum leak?

lets hope that its a vaccume tube come unplugged. loud whining noises that arent vaccum leaks are genereally not good.

Take a piece of heater hose, and stick it in your ear (it's not often I get to tell people to do that without hostile intent!!) and probe around with the other end of it to find the source.

Is the sound definatly from under the hood?
Was your radio on? I had a case where i had a whistle from the speakers that was somehow effected by Engine RPM. (bad wires , interference etc). I did a tune and replaced teh radio and teh "whistle went away....

You know, if you're going to pull that BS, atleast find a thread where you can maybe throw in a helpful comment or two.
Anyway, my buddy had a loud whistle on his 91 and it turned out to be his throttle body. Never gave him any problems though.

Time to go buy a $12 stethascope at vatozone and pinpoint the sound. If it is coming from that side, I'd still put my guess on the ps pump.
