alright my car is dead..
I think I just ****ed my car up..
I did a job where distributor needs to be taken off,
thus timing had to be realigned and adjusted.
Now I align the notch on the crank, and put the rotor facing #1,
and somehow it sounded like it was misfiring on one of cylinder.
I let it idle rough and loud to see whats going on in the engine and stuff.
later I found that there's 3 different fricking notch on the crank damper..
I aligned it with the newest biggest looking notch and did the same.
Now the car has metallic knock pinging sound..
I think I just had detonation killed my car right?
How does a misfire sound like? Mine sounds sort of like popping sound and its loud so Im not sure if its just a misfire or not?
Im not that experienced in all these so if any1 knows I'd appreciate it thanks.

Misfire usual has something to do with spark plug, spark wire or distributer. Sound like the TIMING is OFF or U got the SPARK PLUG WIRES WIRED WRONG. And u say now the car has metallic knock pinging sound, it might be the wrong damper or was that the same damper? I would get the timing corrected first, then spark plug and wires.

Yeah, catastrophic engine damage "usually"(stranger things have happened) doesn't occur just from setting the timing. My base timing was off 15 deg once and I drove like that for 10 minutes before I realized something was wrong.
I suggest taking out the #1 plug, finding when it is fully compressed, and going from there. If there isn't a timing mark on the damper coinciding with that position, your probably 180 deg off. If you can get that piston up and a mark at 0 or close, that is your notch. I put a dab of nail polish on the notch on mine. Unless your running 9000+ rpm, I don't see it throwing off the balance.
Once there, turn your dizzy to the #1 post and go from there. Try slowly advancing it until the engine starts or it gets worse. If it worsens, obviously go the other way. Once it's close, use a timing light to set it properly.
Just remeber: When starting, plug the timing advance wire back in(or vac line for carb folks). When setting with the light, disconnect the advance. In the middle of all the stress of a not running engine, the simplist things can get overlooked. If your getting angry, take a break, drink a beer, smoke a bowl, or whatever you need to calm yourself down. Engines don't run on anger and don't respond to threats unfortunetly.
I don't think it is your current problem, but I'd keep an eye on those Accel products. I haven't heard very much good stuff about their stuff.

thanks guys.
I just had it towed to a shop today caz Ive been on my car for maybe 20hours total. 4days of my freetime skipping school too.
when the car was in my garage, I guess the sound echoes through and it sounded really loud and metallic, but when the shopman turned the car on outside to briefly see whats up, it didnt sound that bad caz it was outside.
Im more certain now that its just a timing or misfire issue instead of me screwing up something internally..
one of the plug was cracked, and plugwire was burnt too so
I thought that'd solve my problem but it didnt. I'll see what the pro says when
they call me, thanks though guys
for help and opinions
