Heavier springs will only slow down the advance curve, not limit the total advance. You need to mechanically limit the total mechanical advance. MSD distributors have a changeable bushing used to limit mechanical advance. I don't know what a pro-comp distributor would have though. If you can't limit it any further than it is, you may have to knock down the initial advance a bit to get the total where you want it.

Just set your initial to 16 instead of 18. It should work fine. The only other way is to change the mechanics. You'd have to call procomp to see if they offer them (probably not).

Why do you want a limit of 36 degrees?

atomic, at 16 deg she has a little bog off the line, i still need to do a little carb tuning (waiting on jets). about 20 deg she does the best but it is putting me at 40 deg total. i assumed that 36 was the magic number for total from reading other posts. im at 18 deg with 38 total rite now and she seems to be good, hopefully better with carb tuning. i dont have any where rite now to open her up and check for detonation.

I hear what you're say'n. The exact thing you want is not available or too expensive to buy. Is there anyway you can weld a little bead on it or add a small dent (divot type) to limit the swing on the mechanical arms.

I've read about such things, long while back, but can't remember the details. I think it was a high buck setup... not sure.

Good luck
