altenator comming loose

Engine: 305 H.O Z28
Transmission: 5 SPD
Axle/Gears: DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT CAMAROS
charging problems
my car would not hold charge..i changed batteries.still not holding charge..tested altenator ..passed...so i checked the power wire that goes into the altenator from the ignition i think.no volts to the wire..so i was told to run a power wire to it from the battery possitive..it fixed the problem..is it going to hurt my altenator?or battery?(poer wire was called pin 2 i think)

When you turn the key to On, with the engine NOT running, does the "Choke" light come on?
If not, change that light bulb, and see if that fixes it.
