What?
I don't follow - you definately have an L98, but it's got more power than you think?
ok, an L98, to be perfectly correct, has a TPI setup on top. Once you remove that, it is no longer an L98, and it becomes "a chevy 350".
You're right, 600cfm and a torker intake (ugh, is this the torker 2, or...?), shouldn't pull that high with stock cam and valvetrain. The TPI setup holds it power band below 5000rpm, but the stock cam and valvetrain probably hold it below 5500RPM. You might be able to force it up to 6500RPM, but it's not "pulling". I mean, it'd make it down the 1/4 faster if you shifted it at 5000RPM probably.
Factory tachs are notoriously inaccurate, you can always grab a cheap 2" one and jerry rig it up to check the accuracy.

i accidently took my L98 with TPI on it to near 6300 in first gear...it sure got there in a hurry. but in all reality, it wasnt pulling.
stock cam and heads are good for 5000-5200rpms but thats about it. carb and intake manifold shouldnt make it pull after 6000 rpms. it will definately be stronger above 4000rpms all the way to 5000, but its not "pulling" past 6500. the cam isnt big enough to flow air that high up.

GM setup the 350 TBI 9C1s to shift at 5,500 RPM at WOT. They have the L98 cam but swirl port heads on them.

better performer on a "un-touched" L98 at first..
Or least it seems that why.
If you like zippin everywhere at WOT, by
all means keep the carb on there.. But TPI
is vastly superior in my eyes
