Cylinder Head Sensor?

Okay quick questions. There's a sensor that screws into the side of the passenger cylinder head (roughly between cylinders 6 & 8) and I believe it goes into the water jacket. My questions are: What is it? Do I need it? Because the little prong that plugs into it is deteriorated and won't stay in there. So is it necessary, or is it another one of those sensors I can forget about? Thanks.

Sounds important. Do I need it?

*Edit*
Stupid question, yes I do. Damn. The rubber sleeve that wraps around the metal prong fell apart. And it seems as though that rubber sleeve held the prong in place. So how the hell do I fix this....

Put a new connector on the wire.

Or a parts store.

You can get about a 6" pigtail with that connector on it at AZ IIRC. Just splice that onto the end of your wire.

And you were expecting ...... ??? Something else perhaps??

Did you walk over to the shelf and look? It'd probably be laying right there staring up at you, like the one was in da store in my hood last weekend.

I really wasn't expecting them to be any help. But they tried.

Anyway, I just bought a little piece of hose to replace the rubber sleeve that wrapped around the connector. Thanks for the help.

Okay, does that sensor work the temperature gauge? Because I got the car running again, and the temperature gauge doesn't want to work...

Yep that's the one. I just remembered that I never found the connector for it. It's in the engine bay somewhere, I'm just not sure where...

Thanks a lot.

Temp guage:driver's head, fan switch: pass head. Sensors appear identical but they are not. Your fan switch will have a single wire running to the fan relay near the windshield wiper motor (unless the location changed for different years) it will provide a ground at a specified temperature to engage the relay and provide power to the radiator fan motor. Look for this wire coming out of the harness near the rear of the engine.

The temp guage sender will provide variable resistance to ground to the temp guage needle, if you have a guage. If you've got the really cool idiot lights this sensor will provide a ground to turn on the temp lamp, again at a specified temperature, although a higher temp than the one to engage the fan.

Okay, does anyone have a picture of the connector for the temperature sensor (in the driver's head) or know where the hell it is? Because I can't seem to find it...

I doubt a pic would do much good, for identifying something you can't see....

"I see" said the blind man to his deaf wife over the long-distance telephone line that wasn't connected, as he picked up his hammer and saw....

The wire you're looking for will come out of the same general area as the wiring breakout that has the dist wires and the OPSU wire. It will be dark green; a single wire, all by itself. It should run along the driver's side edge of the intake, and cross over the valve cover about at the PCV hole.

Look a little further down just above the oil pan rail and you'll see another one identical to it - It's the Knock sensor, but your's is a "92 so connector may not be the same as on my '88.

Never mind. I found it. Apparently the square connector I kept looking at attaches to the round sensor.

Go figure...

Thanks a lot guys. It's working again. Now I just need to figure out why it's running lean...
