HELP!!!! my TBI to TPI conversion won't start!!!
I already posted this in another forum but I'm desperate. Thanks.
Man I sure hope someone can help me!!!! I just completed a TBI to TPI conversion on my 1992 camaro and I can not get it to start!!! I used a TPI setup off of a 1989 Trans Am including the harness and computer. It turns over ok but it will not catch and run. First I'll list what does work then I'll list what does not work.
Does Work
1. fuel pump
2. starter
3. wipers
4. head lights
5. instrument lights
6. radio
7. spark plugs
Does Not Work
1. interior lights
2. power windows
3. power locks
4. hatch pull down
5. blower motor
6. engine
When I turn the key forward but before the starter kicks in, I know that the blower motor is supposed to come on but it does not. When I do try to start it, it turns over only afterIhear the relay kick on, before that I get nothing. It doesn't even chug like it wants to catch. I think the injectors aren't coming on, along with everything else! What the hell did I do wrong?!
I also bled the air out of the fuel lines, thats how I know the fuel pump is working. I pulled one of the spark plugs and tried to start it and I do get a spark. I've checked the coil, it's ok.
The TPI setup was in pretty good shape when I got it. The only real problem with the harness was that the two orange relay power lines that go to the battery and are fusable were cut as were the A/C connectors. When I was removing the TBI harness I could not get to the grounds at the passenger side head so I cut them. When I went to install the TPI Harness I just spliced the passenger grounds into the grounds on the drivers side head. Another question I have is, are the fuse panel layouts different between the TBI systems and the TPI ones? Do I have to add fuses to get things to work?
I'm desperate as this is my only means of transportation. I'm missing work today because of it!!
Please, please, please, I begging, pleading, you for help or advise. If there is anyone in my area that has expereience with this and has some time to spare please get in touch with me by PM-ing me!
Many many thanks!
Will

First...you should have done a little more research.
'89 & '92 harnesses are not compatable.
One is SD the other MAF. That opens a real can of worms.
I wish you luck but i doubt anybody can help unless they are near you,

did you change the fuel pump? what kind of pressure do you have? did you put the MAF on?
most TBI pumps are only good for up to around 18 or so pounds of pressure, some can only do about 15. most TPI motors won't start with less than about 20~25 pounds & then will only barely idle if they do start. TPI needs up around 40 to run right.
