running rich and lean???

Car: 1987 Camaro, 1986 Trans AM
Engine: V6 2.8 multi-port and V8 5.0 FI
Transmission: 5-Speed and Automatic
Axle/Gears: no idea
running rich and lean???
ive heard the terms of a car running rich and running lean. fuel im asssuming??
how can u tell which it is with your car?(symptoms)
also what are the solutions for fixing a rich or lean condition?
and what is the sweet spot your car should be running at?
im trying to learn more about my engine and fix it up and tune it up nice.
i have a 5.0 v8 TPI Fuel Injected small block 305 engine in my 1986 pontiac trans am.
Any suggestions or references to other threads would be great thanks
