305 or 350?

this might sound kind of stupid but i dont have a clue if my engines a 305 or a 350 i ve had people tell me both, its suppose to be a 305, but iv heard thta its not the original engine that came in my car and that its a 50, the block color is orange, but i belive it was painted when it was rebuilt, the car is a 1983 chevy camaro z28. is there any differnces that i could see that would tell me the difference in a 305 and a 50 so i know what engine my car has in it, its suppose to be a 305. Is there a differece in starter size betwen the engine or anything, thanks

Of course you could run the VIN...but it would be inaccurate if its NOT the original engine...

The best bet, is like he said, run the block casting number...but if you dont have the motor out...the easier, but less reliable way would be to just run the VIN.

well in 83 it didnt come factory with anything more than a 305

but you need to give numbers off the engine

at least get the stamping codes off the front of the block under the alternator on the flat pad under there, the last three letters after the V-code part is what we would need

use a screwdriver rag and flashlight and probably some carb cleaner to clean and see them
