stalling and bad acceleration problem
i was driving about 30 mph when my car started to sound slugish then it died on me.i started it back up and got it home by feathering the gas pedal.it happens at slow speeds..i dont know about higher speeds.when i got it home i tried to start it up but it wouldnt fire.i tried it about 2 hours later and it started right up.my father in law said since its been cold and i dont drive it much i needed to put some heet in it and see if that helps.i did but it still does it.i took to take my daughter to school and it died on the road.i went down to start it a couple of hours later to get it home and it would crank but not start.i tried later a couple more times and no start so i checked for spark and was getting any.checked it out and the distributor had cracks in it and was real rusty,so i replaced it,the module, cap, rotor.i put everything back correctly and then fired it up and it ran like a champ.i drove it for about 45 mins and everything was fine.then i took it out to take her to school again and warmed it up..went back out to take her and it was not running.i tried to fire it up and it would just crank.went out an hour later and it fired right up.i took it out and it drove good for 5 minutes and then started to accelerate poorly in first and second gear and was really sluggish. so what does it sound like? could a dying fuel pump do it? thanks it is a 91 z 305 with 67000 miles

It semi sounds like the module, but u have replaced that. just in case if u can get it occur and just crank, check spark again it may just be a defective module once again /shrug.
Good luck!

When my 2.8L did that (and it happened so infrequently it was SOOO annoying.) It would just suddenly bog down like it ran out of gas, not start for like an hour afterwards.
My problem was the fuel pump relay. Well not the relay itself, but the connector. It was making poor contact with the relay and whenever it felt like it would crap out, give it time and it worked again.
I went to the yard and got a few of the best looking connectors there, and soldered/heat shrank them back up. Hasn't happened in more than a year now.

I was having the same problem, turn ignition off (after it dies) wait 15 seconds and turn ignition to on. You should hear the fuel pump prime. If not you got trouble. My problem was with my MSD 6AL. But I know another member that had the same problem until he installed an MSD 6AL. Dont run out and purchase or tear it off if you have one I am just stating a possibility.

the ignition module and pick up coil that came on the new distibutor was not tight so it does not stall anymore but when the idle fluctuates.it idles at 900 but every 30 seconds or so it goes down to 500 to 600 and its just kinda rough over all....had it looked at and was told it has a hole in the cat and has a intake manifold gasket leaking.... does that see like that would take care of the problem? thanks

hmm, my camaro had a similar problem, but it died once and stopped starting. i found out 5/8 injectors were bad. hope yours isnt not as serious as that, but it may be possible. my mechanic is charging me 1200 to fix it, and replace all 8 injectors
